The people in Langleybury’s story
Players, presidents, groundsmen, scorers and supporters whose contributions appear in Langleybury’s surviving historical record.
Langleybury’s history belongs to the people who played, kept score, prepared wickets, raised money and sustained the club between matches. The available sources range from contemporary programme portraits to interviews, award sheets and later tributes.
Players and their club connections
Steven Finn recalled beginning at Langleybury as a child. His early Development XI performances and fourth-XI award supply a club-level story alongside his later England career.
Paul O’Reilly took all ten wickets against Knebworth Park in the championship year of 1998. Cliff Spinks appears in the club records as a prolific all-rounder and in Hertfordshire’s county history.
Service across generations
The recovered Alan Bunn tribute records a connection stretching from the early 1950s through roles as secretary, assistant treasurer and chairman. It is presented at the original historical web address with new explanatory context.
Gordon Riddick combined playing with ground and committee work and later served as president. Norman Harold Chase, president from 1998 to 2015, is remembered in the pavilion’s name.
The players and volunteers register brings together named roles from the 1988 programme and selected club awards. It preserves dated evidence without pretending to be a complete list of every captain, officeholder or member.
Reading a historical profile
A role recorded in one season is not automatically a lifetime office. A contemporary selection list is not a confirmed playing XI. A tribute can describe someone’s importance while leaving exact dates unresolved. Each profile therefore links its factual basis and separates documented events from recollections.
