Editorial policy and corrections

How the Langleybury Cricket Archive checks sources, presents conflicting accounts, dates new writing and handles corrections.

This policy applies to the independent Langleybury Cricket Archive, published by Serallo Domains Ltd. This edition of the policy was prepared on 2 November 2026. Contact: [email protected].

Evidence comes before a tidy story

We prefer contemporary scorecards, programmes, club records, official sporting bodies and public archive documents. Recollections, obituaries, local reporting and later club histories remain valuable, but we attribute them and preserve relevant limitations. A source can establish that an event was announced without proving that it happened.

Articles include source links and access or review dates. The source guide explains the principal collections. Descriptions of inaccessible material are identified as leads or attributed reports; we do not pretend to have inspected a full original when only a catalogue entry or extract is available.

Conflicting accounts

Where sources disagree, the disagreement belongs in the history. For example, the modern club is variously dated to 1950 and 1952. Earlier estate-cricket traditions do not by themselves establish an unbroken organisational history. The origins article sets those claims alongside their sources.

We do not expand initials, identify faces, assign offices to undated seasons or supply missing match scores without evidence. Exceptional statistics are attributed to the relevant record keeper, and a published record sheet is not presented as a new independent statistical audit.

Dates and historical writing

An article’s publication date describes this archive’s new writing. It is not the date of the historical event, the date the old website published its account, or evidence of when this domain first existed. Significant factual revisions can change an article’s update date; routine uploads and design changes do not.

We distinguish a match date, a contemporary report date, an archive capture date, a later upload date and our access date. Historical offices and team details are attached to their documented period rather than presented as current instructions.

Authorship and assistance

The organisational author is Serallo Domains Ltd. Articles were prepared with AI assistance and checked against the cited research. We do not invent an individual historian, sporting expert or eyewitness, and do not imply club approval or specialist peer review.

The explanatory prose on this site is newly written. We link readers to source collections rather than copying full newspaper articles, archive scans or BBC footage. Public availability alone is not permission to republish an image. No source photograph in the research material has been reproduced in this edition.

Links are chosen for their usefulness to the subject. A citation does not imply the source owner endorses this archive. The current official club website is linked so that readers can distinguish historical reference from present-day club business. We do not operate an automatic network of promotional links.

Corrections

Email a page address, the disputed detail and supporting evidence to [email protected]. We assess the source, correct supported errors and keep remaining uncertainty visible. Where an important correction affects interpretation, the article will explain it. We do not promise an arbitrary response time or publish private correspondence without an appropriate basis.

Historical addresses

Where evidence identifies an old page, we aim to preserve its address with useful, original historical content. A direct permanent redirect is suitable only for a genuinely equivalent replacement. Unrelated retired material can return HTTP 410; an unknown address returns HTTP 404. Neither status is replaced by an unrelated generic article.
