Players, officers and volunteers in the records

A dated register of Langleybury’s players, officers, scorers and volunteers, with selected awards from the club’s published tables.

A club’s historical record is richer when it includes the people who organised and maintained it. The 1988 programme is particularly useful because it names contemporary officers, players, scorers and umpires. Later award sheets add another way to recognise service across generations.

Sources: presidential welcome, player and official portraits, advertised appointments and acknowledgements. The table is a July 1988 snapshot, not a continuous succession list.

Families and long playing connections

The programme identifies Simon and Sean Palmer as brothers and Graham Reid as Eddie Reid’s son. Those connections help explain repeated surnames in team lists, but do not justify assuming relationships between every pair of members who share a name. Programme portraits.

It places Geoff Riddick’s debut 33 years before 1988, suggesting about 1955, and reports more than 12,000 club runs and 600 dismissals by the programme’s date. Those are approximate contemporary career totals. They should not be presented as final lifetime records or as statistics audited afresh for this archive.

Mick Dobner’s 59 dismissals in 1987 are recorded both in the programme and in the later club sheet, which breaks them down as 26 catches and 33 stumpings. Jeremy Parker’s 9/49 against St Albans in 1986 also appears in both sources. These overlaps provide useful cross-checks. 1988 portraits; bowling sheet; wicketkeeping sheet.

Earlier service: Alan Bunn

The recovered Alan Bunn notice adds an earlier sequence of offices: secretary 1960–64, assistant treasurer 1969–73 and chairman 1974–78, followed by life membership in 1979. Those dates come from the original club tribute. They should not be used to infer every officeholder who preceded or followed him. Archived 2002 notice.

Continuing the register

AGM minutes, annual reports, scorebooks and dated honours-board photographs would allow a fuller succession list. For now, the people named here are those supported by the surviving sources. The dedicated profiles of Gordon Riddick, Norman Chase, Steven Finn and Cliff Spinks provide more detail where the evidence supports it.
